AHP pleased to announce the opening of its new Seattle area location 

Brian J. Ritchie, FSA, MAAA recently joined Axene Health Partners, LLC expanding the firm’s ability to provide consulting services from the Pacific Northwest.  Prior to joining AHP, Brian worked at Premera Blue Cross in both their actuarial and medical economics areas.  Brian brings a diverse actuarial background to the firm expanding its already strong capabilities.  Brian can be reached at 425.408.3273 or at his email address brian.ritchie@axenehp.com.  Although located in the Pacific Northwest, Brian will work closely with the firm’s southern California operations, providing staff leadership and mentoring.  Brian is the first of several additions responding to the significant increased demand for AHP services.

Axene Health Partners, LLC has completed its review of the Blue Shield of California’s individual and family rate filing.  We have prepared a written report which presents our findings in detail.

REGARDING BLUE SHIELD OF CALIFORNIA ACTUARIAL REVIEW

January 14, 2011 

Axene Health Partners, LLC will conduct this review of Blue Shield of California’s rate filings thoroughly and independently. This will include a review of benefit plans, rating structure, rating methodologies, and actuarial assumptions, as well as a determination of whether the rates are excessive, unjustified or unfairly discriminatory under the standards and definitions in proposed federal regulations. We will apply our best professional judgment and release our findings publicly in a written report. We will share our work with the regulators and respond to their questions and observations prior to its release.

Blue Shield of California commissions AHP to review its most recent rate filing 

AHP has just been commissioned by Blue Shield of California to review its recent individual insurance rate filings. For more information

Axene Health Partners, LLC founder publishes book on practical business principles. 

In late 2009, David V. Axene published “Clearing the Mud” which presents many of the principles he uses in the day to day management of Axene Health Partners and previous organizations he has been associated with.  Consistent with the sub-title of the book (“Simplifying the Complexities of Running a Business”), this is a short book, but provides many useful concepts.  The book provides useful information to start a business, manage an existing business, and/or improve a struggling business.  The book is available at Amazon.com. 

In addition to his traditional consulting activities, Mr. Axene helps organizations improve their operations using the principles described in this book.  He is a frequent speaker on these topics and is passionate about improving the effectiveness of organizations, no matter what business they are in.  

Axene Health Partners, LLC releases Health Reform Essay

Although perhaps controversial, David Axene wrote an essay on health care reform discussing several issues that have not been understood by much of the public.  Although not taking a specific stand on the proposed legislation in either the House or Senate,  it hopefully sheds some light on several of the key issues.  This was sent via fax to each Senator and Member of Congress.  It has been posted on multiple websites and will soon appear in at least one publication.
